Dear Members of the Class of 2018 and Parent/Guardians:

It is that time of year that we start looking towards senior events and graduation. This letter is to inform you about important events for the Class of 2018 that will be taking place in the next few weeks. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me via phone or email. We are excited with all that is about to unfold as it gives us a chance to celebrate your journey from your first days of school and to look towards what the future brings.

The night of the dance, Seniors should arrive at 5:15 p.m. and park in the front parking lot. All students are expected to ride the bus to and from the dance. The bus will depart the high school at 5:30 p.m. The dance will conclude at 10 p.m., and the bus will return to the high school around 10:30 p.m.
Senior Trip (Friday, June 8, 2018): For students who signed up for this event, the final payment is due by Friday, May 18, 2018. The students have been given a sheet with their balance due.

Academics

Final Days of Classes: Please note final exams are scheduled throughout the month of June, including prior to the final day of classes on June 11, 2018. It is imperative that we ensure a safe and appropriate testing environment at our school. Students are expected to continue to observe all rules in the Student Code of Conduct during this time. Those who jeopardize their own safety or the safety of others, create a disruption to the school day or testing, or cause damage to school property will receive consequences as per our district’s policies and procedures, including potential legal and fiscal ramifications where appropriate. Consequences may also include exclusion from participation in the Class of 2018 Commencement Ceremony.
Examination Period: The formal examination period will begin on June 12, 2018, and continue through June 21, 2018. During this time, access to the school will be limited to students who have scheduled examinations or have pre-scheduled meetings with school staff. It is important to note that 10th Grade students will be taking the new Global History Transition Regents Examination on the morning of June 5th. Any student not taking this exam will be in regularly scheduled classes during this time.

In order to pick up a cap and gown, the senior cannot owe any money for lost/missing items.
BOCES Graduation/Cap and Gown Pick-up: The Southern Adirondack Center (SAEC) graduation ceremony will be held on Friday, June 15, 2018. The Myers Center graduation ceremony is scheduled for Monday, June 18, 2018. You may pick up your cap and gown between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Graduation Rehearsal (Friday, June 22, 2018): Students must attend graduation rehearsal in order to participate in the graduation ceremony. The rehearsal begins at 9:30 A.M. SHARP! at the Cool Insuring Arena (formerly the Glens Falls Civic Center). Students MUST attend rehearsal to participate in graduation. Students who do not participate in the graduation ceremony may pick up their diplomas on Tuesday, July 3, 2018, at the Middle School Main Office as South High will be closed for the summer due to construction. Please call ahead.
Graduation Day (Saturday, June 23, 2018): The graduation ceremony is held at the Cool Insuring Arena. Graduates need to arrive at the Cool Insuring Arena no later than 9 a.m. Commencement will begin at 10 a.m. The ceremony will last approximately two hours.
Graduation Seating and Parking: A number of seats will be placed on the floor near the hockey boards. These seats are reserved for senior citizens and handicapped guests. Due to the large number of available seats, tickets will not be issued. Since parking is limited, please arrive early. Oakland Avenue is an additional option for parking.
Commencement Photography: Island Photography will be providing Commencement photo coverage for the Class of 2018. They are going to take two photos of the graduates: the first is crossing the stage and receiving their diploma and the second would be a portrait style as they exit the stage. Within 48-72 hours, Island Photography will have the proofs available to your family online. There is no cost to the family, unless you would like to order enlargements or packages.
Wanted – Pictures of Seniors: Mrs. Smith is still looking for photos of the students from preschool through high school. Photos will be used in the end of the year slideshow. Please send pictures and/or scans to Missy Smith (smithmi@sgfcsd.org).
Expectations for Attire and Behavior at Graduation: In order to ensure that our graduation ceremony is a positive and memorable event, we are asking for your help. Graduates should dress appropriately with the required traditional cap and gown. Over the years, the behavior of our graduates has been exemplary and we are confident this behavior will continue. Please remember that each graduate deserves their moment to be recognized. Your conduct should not draw attention away from other students so each of you can have an opportunity to celebrate all of your hard work and dedication. South Glens Falls does not allow students to wear cords, sashes, or other designation accoutrements that are not issued by the school district. Students may take pictures before and after the ceremony with these items, but during the ceremony they are prohibited.

Once again, thank you for your continued support and cooperation. We look forward to the remaining weeks of school and celebrating the success of the Class of 2018 at their graduation ceremony.

Sincerely,
Pete Mody, Principal
South Glens Falls High School
